Can dogs drink milk? Would it make them sick?

Specifically Havanese dogs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havanese
Milk and dogs in general do not agree – most dogs tend to be lactose intolerant. A small amount won’t harm them, but why risk them getting diarrhea or vomiting. However plain low-fat yogurt in small doses (i.e. 1 or 2 tsps) is good for gastro problems, especially gas, at least in greyhounds. I don’t know specifically about Havanese dogs though.

Some dogs seem to tolerate it in small amounts, but for the most part it doesn’t agree with their digestive system and generally gives them diarrhea. Anyway, there’s really no reason to give a grown dog cow’s milk.

There are certain, specific situations when milk can be god for a dog, but ONLY under the supervision of your Veterinarian, otherwise it could lead to stomach problems and other complications.

My heeler must be the exception. She is a working cow dog on our dairy farm and will lick up any milk she can and it doesn’t bother her. Of course she has the attitude that she can eat anything that doesn’t eat her first. P.S. We love and appreciate her dearly.

In general do not give your dog milk. Dairy does not agree with them. With the exception of yogurt for constipation issues or if pup just got spayed to help her pass stool without having to strain and cause pain. It helps loosen the stool.
